We work as translators/localizers. Your company may be acquainted with the concept of localization, or with these other concepts - internationalization, globalization.
Your company invests plenty of resources to succeed in the global market. To improve sales and brand image, it outsources its language and cultural needs to large or small translation/localization companies located in many countries around the globe. These translation/localization companies, in turn, hire translation professionals in different countries -whenever possible, located in those countries that are target markets for your products or services.
This actually means that the internationalization effort ultimately relies on thousands of people who do their very best to provide you with a linguistic and cultural entry point into a large number of markets.
And, your company showing understanding for them.

Maybe your selected translation/localization companies are not letting you know the facts.
The facts are:
- the vast majority of these dedicated, valuable, skilled individuals are being hugely underpaid, or else the compensation they receive for their services does not allow them to keep up with the cost of living in their respective countries
- on being underpaid, many of them have to quit and pursue a different career
- as so many of them quit their career, an inavaluable amount of experience and know-how is lost, and thus, your company might end up with defective translations and lose sales capacity/volume in many markets

We can't know how much the bill you're receiving from your selected translation/localization companies amounts to. We do know that most of those translation/localization companies are paying us in the range of US$0.06 - 0.09 per translated word. Too many of them are paying a lot less. That's a fact.
We would like to be paid a minimum of US$0.10 - 0.12 per translated word. This is the rate we need to survive and keep serving you with dedication and professionalism. Otherwise, the quality of our work decreases in a direct proportion to lower rates.
Now that you know the facts, it's up to you.
We will honor those corporations who are willing to get involved and address this problem together with their translation/localization partners.
